May 9th, 2008

  • Full Text: Psalm 74-75
  • Selected Text: Ps 74: 1-2, 12-14, 22-23; Ps 75: 1-9
  • Level 1 Questions:

    • Ps 74: Israel had faced disaster and ruin (vs 1-11), but the Psalmist turns to remembering what God has done and who he is (vs 12 - 17). Why did he do this?
    • Ps 75: What characteristics of God's judgement are described? What is the Psalmist's response?

    Level 2 Questions:

    • Ps 74: Consider Romans 8:28 - how does the Psalmist remember the truth found in Romans as he writes the three phases of this Psalms (detailing crushing defeat/despair, remembering God's goodness, praying for God's victory)
    • Ps 75: What characteristics of God's judgement are described? What is the Psalmist's response?

    • Ezekiel prophecies about judgment to come "in the latter days"? What similarities do you note with the judgment in Revelation ch.8?
    • Why does God bring these judgments on Israel and her enemies? (39:7)

    Level 2 Questions:

    • What great event takes place after Israel's punishment as a sign of God's love and faithfulness? Do you note this in any other passages? (Great banquet - Psalm 23)
    • How is God jealous for His people? Describe His jealousy from ch. 39:25-29?

  • Level 1 Questions:

    • What great vision is given to Ezekiel as a promise of God's restoration?
    • Where is Israel when Ezekiel sees this vision? (40:1) How might this have encouraged the hearts of the nation?

    Level 2 Questions:

    • Do you know what happens in this building?
    • Ezekiel describes a vision that God also give to the Apostle John in Revelation 21:9-27. What are similarities in their description?

    • After the building is established, whose presence comes to dwell in it?
    • What is Ezekiel's response to His arrival? Do other people in the Bible respond in this way?

    • What is the purpose of describing this building to Israel? (43:10-12)
    • Rather than land and possession, what is the inheritance of the Levites? (44:28). In the New Testament Peter calls the church a "royal priesthood, a nation, a people for his own possession" (1 Pet. 2:9). How does he relate our deliverance from sin and res

  • Level 1 Questions:

    • What was one of the purposes for which Israel sacrificed in the temple? (46:20)
    • Since Jesus is our Passover Lamb, who was sacrificed for us, how do we communicate the same truth that Israel believed?

    Level 2 Questions:

    • What is coming out of the temple?
    • In Revelation 22, John also sees this marvelous event. (1-5) Compare these two events, and the promise of God's name. (Eze. 48:35, Rev. 22:4). Where is the name of God placed in the New Testament as opposed to the Old Testament?
